A) There are a number of 3D modellers out there that are free to use. There are others that are generally more powerful that have free demos, so you have plenty of choice.

Maya - Maya is frequently used in film and TV to help create incredible CGI. You can download a free 'Personal Learning Edition' here: Maya PLE

Blender - Blender is an open-source (ie free) 3D modeller with a big online community and lots of support to help you out. You can download it here: Blender
